Pay monthly websites, and what to check before you sign.
A pay monthly website is one you rent rather than buy: instead of an invoice for the build, you pay a monthly fee that usually covers the site, the hosting and the domain together. In the UK that runs from about £19 to £145 a month. What separates them is not the price. It is what you are left with if you stop paying.
How it works
You pay a monthly fee and the provider builds the site, puts it online and keeps it there. Most bundle the things a one-off build bills separately: hosting, the domain, an SSL certificate, and some number of changes a month. There is normally no large payment at the start, which is the whole appeal. In exchange, the arrangement only lasts as long as the payments do.

Across the five UK providers in our pricing research, the published figures run from £19 a month at Mojo Websites for a five-page site to £145 a month at Pixelish. Inventis lists from £29 a month, Kitching Ltd £39.99, and MonthlyWebDesign £50 all-inclusive. rowbo is £30 a month. Prices checked 12 August 2026.
What happens if you stop paying
This is the question to ask first, and it is the one most pricing pages skip. Of the five UK providers in our research, two publish a term. Mojo Websites lists no setup fee and no contract, cancel any time. Inventis lists a 12-month term and says the site is 100% yours after those 12 months. For Kitching Ltd, MonthlyWebDesign and Pixelish our research records the price and no ownership term alongside it, which is not the same as saying the site goes off, only that you would have to ask them. Ask anyway, and ask it in writing: whether the domain is in your name, whether you can take the pages and photos with you, and what happens on the day you cancel.
When buying outright is the better deal
If you can pay once and you want the asset, a one-off build is usually cheaper over a few years, and nobody can switch it off. Our research records full freelance builds on Fiverr typically running $500 to $5,000, and a $21 an hour median rate for web designers on Upwork, with hosting and a domain on top and maintenance at £25 to £100 a month in the UK. If you want a designer to brief and a person making your changes for you, an agency gives you that and we do not. Monthly is the better fit when you would rather not write a cheque at the start, or when you want the bill to stop if the business does.
